Southern Caregiver Resource
Center (SCRC)
The Southern
Caregiver Resource Center is a private, nonprofit organization
that helps families and caregivers by providing services that are
inclusive of all issues related to caring for an older adult. As
one of eleven sites in the Caregiver Resource Center (CRC) system
throughout California, SCRC is funded by an annual, renewable grant
with the California State Department of Mental Health. The County
of San Diego Aging and Independence Services is a primary funder
as well. Other revenue is provided by foundations, grants, and private
donations.
The mission of SCRC is to help families and
communities master the challenges of caring for adults through cost-effective
and prevention-oriented programs and services that address the emotional,
physical, and financial needs of family caregivers.
The SCRC specializes in understanding and working
with caregivers of frail, older adults or adults with chronic and

and families of adults with a brain impairment only.
SCRC staff will discuss with clients the various legal and financial
issues relating to caring for an adult with a brain impairment.
This may include planning for eligibility for public assistance
programs, and identifying issues the client may want to raise
with an attorney. If it is felt that a client would benefit
from consultation with an attorney, he/she will be referred

the caregiver may receive relief and rest. This service may
be provided in the individual's home, or in an out-of-home setting
such as a day care center.
