Many families have a senior member living at home with assistance from a caregiver. While this is generally cost-effective and the preferred arrangement, how can you be sure if the care is being delivered as promised or is meeting your or a loved one’s needs?
All home care agencies are not created equal and, currently, they are not regulated in the state of California. Although many agencies are “registered” or have been “certified” by groups working to create a higher standard of protocols (i.e. CAHSAH or ABHC), some concern remains regarding home care services. While some agencies have Geriatric Care Managers or other staff to oversee cases, families may still worry about quality of care.
Our Independent Audit Program (IAP) (available only in CA) is designed to alleviate that worry. We will conduct:
- A professional assessment of the care plan
- A home safety evaluation
- Interviews with both the person(s) receiving the care and the primary caregiver
Within 2 weeks of the audit, Starfish Resources will provide a written report that includes findings, considerations, recommendations for next steps or additional services, and available resources.
The IAP can also be utilized for seniors going home after a stay in rehab, or long term care. This will help the family determine if the environment is the safest option and/or what services can be added to meet the needs and goals of that person and their family.
