Nancy Coulter Beland tells you how in “A Pathway to Senior Care in San Diego.” Drawing upon 10+ years of experience specifically in Sa n Diego and North County senior care, she gives the ins and outs of the industry—no holds barred. And each chapter is sprinkled with anecdotes from her days in the dugout.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Have those difficult conversations with your loved one about Power of Attorney and lifestyle preferences
  • Determine which care option is right for you
  • Interview home care agencies
  • Look for signs of quality senior communities
  • Work with Medicare, Medi-Cal, SSI, and VA benefits
  • Make moving day easier on everyone
  • Take care of yourself in the process

Book Introduction

Traversing the pathway to the proverbial pot o’ gold in senior care can be as difficult as a leprechaun is allusive. They say “there can be no rainbow without a cloud and a storm.” Does life in the golden years have to be made of thunder storms, hurricanes, and tornadoes before you can enjoy your rainbow? And, what about that pot o’ gold? Must you spend all you’ve saved to survive? What kind of quality of life will that bring?

You may be able to find the rainbow if you know where to look for the paths that take you there. There are different paths for different people. I’m here with your umbrella to guide you through those storms and to help you find those paths.

Not many people have much spare time these days, let alone have time to research the options in senior care. That is, until it’s needed. Ninety percent of the time, that need arises suddenly in the midst of a storm or a crisis at hand. Just the word hospital can evoke fear instantly for many of us. So, where do you start your search when mom’s not eating and loosing weight? Or she broke her hip during a fall and you’re struck with the realization that she can’t live alone anymore? Or dad got lost driving to the store only to turn up hours later in another town not even able to remember where he was going or why? And what do you do if private caregiver Suzie Q, who was “only helping with the errands,” seems to have emptied mom and dad’s accounts and charged their credit cards up beyond the limits of sanity? My hope is that this book will help you with these and other scenarios that those in senior care hear about daily.
